Construction on this church started in 1903, and this Italian Renaissance revival structure was completed four years later and named in honor of Saint Anthony of Padua. It features a copper dome and an ornate marble altar.

The historic legacy of the Cathedral Basilica was recognized by the City of Beaumont in 1975 as a heritage site and in 1981 was named a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. In 2006, Pope Benedict XVI elevated the church to an honored title of cathedral basilica, recognizing the historic, artistic and religious significance of the site.

This is an active church. You may walk through the Cathedral Basilica if there are no activities in progress. Guided tours are available by appointment.
